Canton MI (September 16, 2003) – Developer Stardock Entertainment has released Galactic Civilizations: Expanded Universe, a free expansion pack for their award winning strategy game, Galactic Civilizations today. Set near the dawn of the 23rd century, the player takes on the role of leader of the human civilization and must compete against dozens of alien civilizations in the creation of an interstellar empire.
The free expansion pack includes hundreds of new features, tweaks, and enhancements based on player feedback. These features include:
• Rally points. Players can now set rally points to automatically send ships to different positions in the galaxy.
• A new integrated Encyclopedia. Players can now instantly access a built in technology tree navigator, information on ships, planets, stars, and ships, and other data via hyperlinks within the game.
• Updated graphics for stars, sector drawing, space anomalies, and more to enhance the visual appeal of the game.
• Enhanced Governors that allow players to obsolete older ship designs and more effectively manage a vast interstellar civilization including an explored star list, slider locking, and other UI enhancements.
• “Dungeon Master” mode (cheat keys) that let players tweak the game on the fly to create a more customized experience.
• A host of new technologies, random events, new anomalies, new ships, and more.
• Hundreds of new sectors in the largest galaxy size.
Galactic Civilizations is published by Strategy First and is available at most retail outlets. It is also the first major retail PC game to allow users to purchase and download the game directly from the developer’s website: Link Buyers can opt to get a CD-ROM package or go purely electronically.

you know, i bought this game when it first came out and have STILL yet to play it more than 10 minutes. i swear, i know it's got to be fun (based on the reviews, community, etc.) but i can't freaking do anything in it. i've got the "manual" that came with it, but it's horribly insufficient. i just don't have the wherewithal to figure it out, i guess. (really, the folks responsible for the content manual need to be lined up against a brick wall somewhere and spanked). i downloaded the expansion pack with the hope that the manual might be expanded as well. unless i'm overlooking it, it's still the same woefully inadequate manual i've had for a while. and the "walk-through"? ha! really, i'm not afraid to admit that i'm an idiot. i need to be led by the hand. where on god's green earth can i get my paws on some sort of detailed set of step, instructions, what-have-you so that i can get my money's worth out of this game?!?!?
If you're looking for help, try going to the Strategies Forum and asking there. There are many of us who will be glad to help you with anything you might be having a problem with!
grreeat..
i have now played it..
checked the new events etc.. cool job..
especially the planets and stars look much better now..
this is so cool game..
THank you Brad for finally making the biggest event of the year! And t hank you for doing it before my birthday! On the 23rd. I turn 21!
Alos, a big apology to all of those who were offended by my comments months ago. A real big apology.
Thank oyu agian, and you're a daring guy, Brad, giving out your phone number.
Yeah, I know it's your work number, well, I assume so, but still, it's daring.
It seems that it is not compatible with savegames from v1.05.
I must cry now, I had such a great game saved where I was outcolonizing the AI for the first time and possessed 7 +32pq planets.
this is really a fun games my thing to d in the game is Economy and Research First then miltary second.
im on a crappy comp:/ i play this on an offline computer.
Just loaded up GalCiv on my new computer ("work PC", wht's that mean?), and upgraded directly to the Expansion Pack. Started a new game, found my first "egg" anomaly and my first Space Shark fairly quickly. Cool! (led that baby over to the Altarian homeworld!)
Will it work with the German version? Because if it does, I'll get it right away... (I wouldn't care if it turns all texts to English, as I'd prefer the English version anyway, but I can't get it here)
I am a registered user and still cannot see V. 1.1 on Stardock Central. I am NOT a Drengin.net subscriber. I have updated til 1.05 without problem. Please help!!!
I've been trying for two days to download the expansion. Back and forth from Stardock to GalCiv to Drengin Net. I finally found a link inlcuded in the full pres release but it is broken.
HOW ABOUT SOME CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS on how to download the expamsion? Thanks.
Download and install Stardock Central. Then start it up, select Galactive Civivlizations from the software tab, and then click update (assuming it's already installed on the machine).
If that doesn't work, apparentlly a stand-alone patch upgrade is on the way whithin a week or so from when it came out. Once that is available, you can download that and run it to update.
WOW!
This is some expansion! This has to be game of the year! Graphics look great, the couple of new events I've encountered so far are right on target, and the patch was put up so fast it made my head spin!
Kepp up the good work and keep it coming!!!
The versioning information is messed up, if you had the beta version installed, you must "upgrade" from 1.09 beta to 1.05 release, then you click refresh, and then you see 1.1 release.
Is there any date for the stand alone download of this?
I play GC on my Laptop and rarely connect it to the web (hence few game reports ) and would rather downloaded on a cabled PC and transfer across on PC.
(like I do version upgrades)
